IRIS Dena was returning from the International Fleet Review 2026 and the multinational MILAN-26 exercise, both hosted by the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam from 15 to 25 February 2026. On the early morning of 4 March 2026, the Iranian Navy frigate IRIS Dena (F-75), a Moudge-class light frigate of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN) Southern Fleet, was struck by a torpedo and sank in international waters of the Indian Ocean, approximately 19 nautical miles (35 km) south of Galle, Sri Lanka. A U.S. Navy nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine fired the weapon.

On March 2, 2026, Allameh Helli 5 High School in Tehran was struck in an air attack during the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran. The school, a SAMPAD institution for highly talented students located on Iranshahr Street near Ferdowsi Square, sustained extensive damage. Dehkhoda Hall, which was used for examinations and student assemblies, was completely destroyed, while the basement housing the physics, biology, chemistry, and electrical laboratories was also destroyed and cleared. The main school building remained standing but could no longer be used. No students were at the school when it was struck. According to the school's deputy principal, the attack occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. on March 2, after an earlier attack on the school on March 1 had prompted officials to dismiss the students and close the school. Only a male and a female caretaker were present at the time, and neither was seriously injured. The school had 349 students, whose education subsequently continued through online classes and examinations while an alternative location was considered for in-person instruction.
