Drone Strike on a Tent in Kakan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province

On April 5, 2026, at 1:55 a.m., a US-Israeli drone strike hit a tent in Kakan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, in the Cheshmeh Salam area at kilometer 40 of the Yasuj–Eqlid road in Boyer-Ahmad County. Two young men inside the tent, Hamed Shafi'khah and Mehrshad Bashib (Zolghadr), were killed.

Kakan is a tourist and tribal summer-pasture area near Yasuj. The two men had arrived at Cheshmeh Salam only about an hour before the strike, and their bodies were identified the following day. Abbas Beheshti, governor of Boyer-Ahmad County, told ILNA that drones struck the tribal areas of Kakan and Vezg overnight and that two people were killed in Kakan, describing those killed as innocent people. Fattah Mohammadi, political and security deputy to the provincial governor, told Defa Press that the site near Kakan had been hit by a drone.

The strike was one of several attacks on the province that night. Officials reported that a separate drone strike in the Vezg area of Boyer-Ahmad County killed three people traveling to a fish-farming site, and an attack in Dehdasht, Kohgiluyeh County, killed five people and injured seven others.

IHL consideration

The two men were staying in a tent at a recreational spring area they had reached shortly before the attack, and nothing in the available reporting indicates any military presence or activity at the site. A tent used by campers is a civilian object. Directing a strike at it may have violated the principle of distinction, which prohibits attacks on civilians and civilian objects, as well as the obligation to take all feasible precautions to verify that a target is a military objective before attacking.
