Their story

Mehrshad (24) and Mahdi (19) were the sons of Javad Hassanzadeh, an environmental ranger in the Tarom protected area of Hormozgan. Since the start of the World Cup, Mehrshad, along with his wife, brother, and mother, had brought their home television from the city of Hajiabad, Hormozgan, to the 'Seyyed Jouzar' environmental outpost to watch the matches. The environmental outpost came under attack at 2:20 AM. While the bodies of Mr. Hassanzadeh’s two sons were relatively intact, the body of the daughter-in-law was identified with great difficulty. At the time of the attack, Ranger Hassanzadeh was at the hospital accompanying his ailing wife—a circumstance that ultimately saved his life.
