Description
Reza Rastegar, commander of the Environmental Protection Unit (Yegan-e Hefazat-e Mohit-e Zist), said the Sayed Jozar outpost in the Tarom Protected Area was struck by two projectiles on the night of 23 Tir (13–14 July), killing two sons and the daughter-in-law of ranger Javad Hassanzadeh, who were present at the post; the outpost building and its equipment were completely destroyed. He noted Hassanzadeh was unharmed, having been away on a patrol/monitoring mission at the time, and that a fodder storage facility belonging to the Department of Environment was also damaged. Habib Masihi-Taziani, director-general of Hormozgan's Department of Environment, said the immunity of environmental areas and personnel is affirmed under international law, and characterized the killing as a clear instance of a war crime warranting international response. Shina Ansari, head of Iran's national Department of Environment, issued condolences and said the memory of "these martyrs" would endure. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated on social media that the list of alleged US crimes against Iranians grows longer daily, referencing this incident specifically.
