Strike on Vela Cultural Center, Shahr-e Rey

The Vela Cultural Center in Shahr-e Rey was struck on March 23, 2026, in a U.S.-Israeli attack. Tasnim reported that three projectiles hit the cultural center, destroying a large part of the complex. The attack also damaged a pedestrian bridge and the monument marking the historic Rey Gate, and a taxi was trapped under the rubble.

The cultural center hosts art, educational, music, and sports classes and includes an auditorium. The center's grounds also contain a memorial to unidentified soldiers, while the historic Rey Gate monument is located next to the complex. The attack caused serious damage to the cultural center and to some residential units in the surrounding area.
