Strike on Urmia University, West Azerbaijan

On March 8, 2026, missile strikes affected parts of the Urmia University. According to the university's public relations office, buildings in both the Science and Technology Campus and the Specialized Veterinary Hospital Campus sustained very serious damage. The university stated that no members of the university community were injured in the attacks.

A subsequent assessment published by Tasnim on March 30 provided greater detail on the scale of the physical damage. It identified 13 university buildings among the damaged facilities, including educational buildings, the Microelectronics Research Institute, the Biotechnology Research Institute, the university museum, the Central Laboratory, an administrative building, the Growth Center, and the veterinary clinic. Reported damage included broken glass, dislodged windows, collapsed suspended ceilings, and displacement of walls. The preliminary estimate for repairing the damage was 170–180 billion tomans, equivalent to approximately $1 million.
