SavojBolagh County, Chaharbagh Road, Karaj, Alborz
Perpetrator: USA + Israel
Stage 1 · Reported
Description
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, a US-Israeli missile strike hit the Chaharbagh railway bridge in Kordan, Alborz Province, on the railway line linking Alborz and Zanjan provinces. The bridge was completely destroyed. Three members of the Moradi family, who were at a checkpoint in the underpass beneath the bridge, were killed: Saber Moradi, the father; Masoumeh Jafarzadeh, the mother; and Sina, the couple's 17-year-old son.
According to Ghodratollah Seif, Alborz Province's deputy governor for political and security affairs, at least 11 other people were injured and seven passing vehicles were damaged; his initial statement on the day of the strike reported one death. The strike took place on the final day of the 39-day war.
In October 2026, after the underpass was rebuilt, Chaharbagh's municipality named it after the Moradi family.
IHL consideration
Transportation infrastructure such as a railway bridge may in some circumstances qualify as a military objective, but even when it does, international humanitarian law requires attacking forces to take all feasible precautions to avoid harm to civilians and to refrain from attacks expected to cause civilian harm excessive in relation to the anticipated military advantage. The Chaharbagh bridge spanned a road underpass used by civilian traffic, and the strike killed a family, including a teenager, and injured at least 11 other people while damaging passing vehicles. The foreseeable presence of civilians on the road beneath the bridge, and the absence of any reported warning, raise serious concerns that the attack may have violated the principles of precaution and proportionality.
