Description
FIRST ATTACK
On the afternoon of Friday 27 March 2026 (7 Farvardin 1405), US-Israeli airstrikes struck multiple sections of the Mobarakeh Steel Company complex in the city of Mobarakeh, Isfahan Province. The facility is Iran's largest steel producer and one of the largest industrial complexes in the Middle East and North Africa, operating vertically integrated plants. The attack struck the complex while its employees were working their regular shifts. In an official statement (PR Bulletin No. 2), the company confirmed that "several parts of this complex sustained damage" and that "one production worker was martyred and 16 were injured, of whom three were transferred to hospital for further treatment." The Deputy Governor General of Isfahan, Akbar Salehi, confirmed the casualty figures and stated that relief and technical teams had been immediately dispatched to the site. According to the company's communications management, preliminary assessments indicated "the large scale of the attacks, the damage inflicted, and the serious destruction of production-related units." The targeted electricity infrastructure and power generation units were reported to be severely damaged. The strike was simultaneously accompanied by a separate attack on the Khuzestan Steel Company complex in Ahvaz. Israeli officials stated, without providing evidence, that the attacks were intended to target facilities they alleged were involved in production of materials and equipment for military industries and had links to IRGC-affiliated entities — a claim rejected by Iranian authorities, who characterised the strikes as "economic terrorism" targeting civilian industrial workers and infrastructure.
SECOND ATTACK
On the night of Tuesday 31 March 2026 (11 Farvardin 1405) at 23:00 local time, US-Israeli warplanes struck the Mobarakeh Steel Company complex for a second time within four days. In an official statement, the company's communications management confirmed that "warplanes targeted a number of vital sections of its infrastructure" and that "initial assessments indicate the attack has caused significant damage to several parts of the company." Due to precautionary measures implemented after the first attack on 27 March, the number of employees present had been minimised; a small number of workers sustained minor injuries. The second strike was of sufficient severity that all production lines at the complex were halted entirely — confirming what Radio Farda later reported as a complete shutdown of Iran's largest steel producer.
The Tasnim News Agency confirmed this was the second US-Israeli strike on the complex within a week. Iranian officials condemned the repeated targeting of civilian industrial facilities as "economic terrorism," noting the complex employed thousands of civilian workers and played a central role in Iran's civilian economy. Radio Farda subsequently reported that Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (SAMIT) confirmed the complex would be rebuilt at its current location in Mobarakeh and would not be relocated, rejecting speculation about a move southward.
