Strike on Kuhak Oil Depot, Tehran
7 Mar 2026
Lashgari highway, Tehran, Tehran
Perpetrator: Israel
Stage 1 · Reported
Description
On March 7, 2026, the Kuhak Oil Depot was targeted in an Israeli airstrike as part of a series of attacks on oil-storage facilities in the Tehran and Alborz region. Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing an informed source at Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum, reported that multiple oil depots in Tehran and Karaj were targeted by Israeli fighter jets.
A separate report by Asr Iran, citing a Ministry of Petroleum official speaking to Fars News, likewise identified Kuhak, Shahran, Karaj, and Shahr-e Rey among four oil depots attacked.
Reporting from the scene also indicates that the Kuhak facility was struck by a missile and that smoke from the resulting fire spread over Tehran. The same account describes the broader effects of the oil-depot attacks, including broken windows and structural damage to nearby commercial and residential buildings.
The attack formed part of a broader strike on oil-storage infrastructure around Tehran. Human Rights Watch warned of potentially long-term environmental and public-health consequences from burning petroleum products. HRW further assessed that attacks on primarily civilian infrastructure causing foreseeable civilian harm may constitute violations of international humanitarian law and are likely war crimes. However, because HRW does not specifically identify the Kuhak depot by name in its report, its legal assessment should be understood as applying to the documented oil-depot attacks collectively rather than as a specific finding regarding Kuhak.
