Stage 1 · Reported
Description
The attack directly struck the Jam Petrochemical Complex in the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in Asaluyeh on April 6, 2026. According to an official statement issued by the Public Relations Department of Jam Petrochemical Company, multiple missiles directly hit the complex, causing extensive damage to storage tanks and process facilities. Fires broke out in storage tanks and operational units, while HSE and firefighting personnel worked to contain them. The company described the destruction of operational units as substantial and stated that the damage assessment was ongoing. It further warned that reconstruction and a return to production could take years.
The subsequent reporting by S&P Global, citing the company's April 7 statement, reported that tanks and processing plants had been damaged and that parts of the complex's operations remained on fire. It estimated that 3.174 million metric tons per year of production capacity was affected, comprising the complex's polypropylene and polyethylene production capacity. S&P Global likewise reported that Jam expected reconstruction and the resumption of production to take years.
Reuters' reporting on the day of the attack independently confirmed strikes on the Asaluyeh petrochemical complex, while noting that electricity, water and oxygen supply facilities serving Asaluyeh were also attacked and that electricity to all petrochemical units in the area was cut.
