Description
On February 28, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a U.S.-Israeli attack struck Haftad-o-Dow Square in the Narmak neighborhood of Tehran. Mehr News reported that several residential homes in central Tehran, including those around Haftad-o-Dow Square, were attacked.
According to Hamshahri's on-site report, a powerful explosion shook the Narmak neighborhood at around 10:00 a.m. The building at the beginning of an alley adjacent to Haftad-o-Dow Square was completely destroyed. The report said residents believed the main residence associated with former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which was located in the same alley, had not been struck.
The explosion caused extensive damage to surrounding buildings. Hamshahri reported that windows in buildings around the square, including some several streets away, were shattered by the blast. A nearby five-story modern building had its windows completely broken, while part of the stone façade on the first floor was also torn away by the force of the explosion.
The two sources give different information about fatalities. A local elderly resident told Hamshahri that two people had been killed and identified them as security guards of one of the buildings. When Hamshahri reporters asked officials responsible for restricting access to the site about the number of fatalities, one official reportedly said that there had been five deaths. The report does not establish which figure was confirmed by authorities, and neither source provides a confirmed number of injured people.
