8 Jun 2026 · 07:30 (Tehran Time)
Mahshahr Special Economic Petrochemical Zone , Mahshahr, Khuzestan
Incident type: Airstrike
Perpetrator: Israel
Stage 1 · Reported
Description
The Israeli military said its air force struck several targets at the petrochemical complex in Mahshahr and that more details about the operation would be released later. Israeli television networks separately claimed that up to 20 targets were struck inside Iran during this same wave of attacks on June 8, indicating that the Mahshahr strike was one component of a broader assault.2
The Karun Petrochemical Company is one of Iran's major downstream petrochemical producers, operating within the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone — one of the largest petrochemical hubs in the Middle East. Karun Petrochemical is one of the most important units of Iran's petrochemical industry in the Mahshahr special economic zone, operating in the production of chemical products and raw materials for downstream industries. This is not the first attack on the Mahshahr petrochemical zone during the 2026 conflict; a previous, larger strike in early April 2026 caused significant damage to multiple facilities within the same zone and resulted in reported casualties, underscoring the repeated targeting of this civilian industrial cluster.1
