Description
In the early hours of 2 April 2026 (13 Farvardin 1405), an explosion tore through the Pasteur Institute of Iran — the country's most prominent public health research facility — destroying key laboratories and research wings.1
The WHO confirmed the institute was "unable to continue delivering health services" as a result of the strikes. Founded in 1920 following the First World War, the institute is the oldest medical facility in the country, established to manufacture serums and vaccines for smallpox, plague, cholera, diphtheria, and rabies, and is part of the global network of Pasteur Institutes.2
