Their story

Mohammad-Hessam, 10, and his sister Asena, 12, were both students at the Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab; both were killed during the attack on the school on February 28th. Their mother recounts that around 11:23 AM on the day of the attack, she heard an extremely loud explosion, which shattered the windows of their home due to its proximity to the school. At the time, their mother, father, and younger brother were all at home.

Upon hearing the explosion, the mother ran toward the school barefoot, wearing nothing but her chador. She saw that the school building had been reduced to rubble. Only one section of the school's administrative office was still standing, from which black smoke and flames were pouring out of the windows. She repeatedly called out for her children.

Like the other parents of the students at Shajarah Tayyebah School, she saw only severed hands, feet, knees, and wrists among the debris, and was overwhelmed by the smell of blood and burning. Around noon, the school was struck again, though that strike resulted in few additional casualties. A day later, around 10:00 AM, the children’s bodies were found intact in the city’s morgue.
