Yasmin Bakouei: Fragments of a Young Computer Science Graduate Found Amid Ruins
Yasmin, 23 years old, was a graduate student at Sharif University of Technology. She was one of four family members—alongside her father, mother, and brother Armin—who lost their lives due to missile attacks. Yasmin’s story is so tragic that even after extensive searches, her body was never fully recovered. At her funeral in Sari, northern Iran, an empty coffin was brought to symbolize her absence.
Yasmin’s uncle, who spoke to Hammihan Media Group about the family, explained: “Three members of the family have been buried, but Yasmin has not yet. The forensic authorities said the family must wait for the DNA test results from the remaining body fragments to see if they match her parents’ DNA, so she can be laid to rest.”
“I put all my strength into finding my niece—an exceptional girl and her uncle’s pride. Our relationship was very close. I knew where she used to sleep, so I searched there. Unfortunately, there was a lot of debris, and it took two days to find her. Sadly, what we feared was true—she was at the far end of the opposite building. We found some body fragments with pieces of clothing and socks. I showed them to my sister, and she confirmed it was Yasmin’s clothing. We collected those fragments into a plastic bag and sent them to forensic authorities.”
Yasmin was her uncle’s beloved niece. “We talked a lot, and I always gave her positive energy and guidance. She told me she wanted to reach a point where she could become an entrepreneur and support others under her wing.”
