Description

At 3:30 PM on Sunday, 25 Khordad 1404 (15 June 2025), the busy public square of Meidan-e Quds in Tajrish, northern Tehran, was struck by two near-simultaneous air-launched munitions. The square was full of civilians, shoppers, and passing vehicles at the time of the attack.

First strike: A guided munition struck the upper floors of a six-storey building adjacent to the square. The upper floors housed an office of the Regional Mosque Affairs Centre (Markaz-e Residegi be Omur-e Masajed, Shahid Bahonar district); the ground floor was a branch of Bank Shahr. The strike caused the building to partially collapse, killing and injuring occupants and those in the immediate vicinity.

Second strike: Seconds after the first explosion, a second munition struck the street surface of Meidan-e Quds itself — in the middle of the public square — at the moment vehicles were stopped at a red traffic light. The munition penetrated the street surface, detonated underground, and blew open a large crater, simultaneously rupturing Tehran's main water supply pipeline and causing extensive flooding at the start of Shariati Street. CCTV footage captured cars being launched into the air. Surviving witnesses described the scene as resembling images of Gaza.

The second street-level strike — its stated target never publicly identified by the IDF — killed and wounded the largest concentration of civilian victims. The Minister of Health confirmed the following day (26 Khordad) that 12 persons had been killed, including a pregnant woman, and approximately 59 civilians injured. Eyewitnesses and a local resident familiar with the neighbourhood gave higher figures to Etemad Online: between 20 and 30 killed and more than 60 wounded in their direct observation.

CCTV footage of the moment of impact was first published on 12 Tir 1404 (3 July 2025) by sources. The video shows the east-facing view toward Bahonar Street and the beginning of Dezashib at the moment of dual explosion. A higher-resolution version confirmed the same events. The weapon used for the street-level strike was identified by Tabnak as an Israeli SPICE (Smart, Precise Impact, Cost-Effective) electro-optically guided bomb kit, a precision air-to-ground system requiring an actively identified visual target — meaning the street surface was either the intended strike point or the result of an unintended miss by metres.
