Hamid Ranjbari: Killed While Rescuing a Five-Year-Old Boy from the Rubble of a Bomb Attack
Hamid Ranjbari, a 40-year-old Iranian man, was killed three days after an Israeli airstrike on Evin Prison while trying to rescue a five-year-old boy, Mehrad Khairy, from the rubble.
Friends and family describe Hamid as kind, compassionate, and always eager to help others. Rescuers later found his body holding Mehrad in his arms. They said he had embraced the boy so tightly that their hands were intertwined, making it difficult to separate them.
Hamid worked in the Freedom Unit at Evin Prison. He had studied law and had recently passed the bar exam, preparing to begin a new chapter in his life.
Nastaran Torkashvand, the wife of Hamid’s brother, says that his mother and siblings are devastated:
“He was a very kind man. He always wanted to help others and went out of his way to solve people’s problems—not for personal gain, but from the heart. He entered the rubble voluntarily to save that child, Mehrad, the son of his colleague.”
